E-learning without Internet data charges : NR expedite’s the project

Minister of Youth and Sports, State minister of Digital Technology & Entrepreneur Development Namal Rajapaksa has requested relevant authorities to expedite the project of enabling all school children in the country to engage in online learning free of any internet charges, through the e-thaksalawa program.

The minister said this while participating in a meeting held at the Temple trees yesterday, emphasizing the need to eliminate shortcomings in the current e-thaksalawa system.

Minister Rajapaksa has also instructed the relevant to rollout the 1st phase of allowing 200 students to access online classes free of charge through the e-thaksalawa scheme by the 21st of July.

In the meeting held yesterday, it has also been discussed on the possibility of launching a dedicated television channel as well as a radio channel exclusively for education purposes, through the government media stations.

The Minister has also reportedly instructed the relevant to work on an appropriate mobile app, to help support the children who are going through various difficulties when it comes to online learning.
