The country currently has rice stocks only sufficient for consumption of about 1 months time, Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana has said.
He further said that with the statistics provided by mill owners, there is a risk of rice shortage in the country in coming days.
Therefore, the minister said that the government has taken a decision to import 100,000 metric tonnes of Rice immediately.
