Two women arrested for killing husbands over domestic abuse

Two murders as a result of domestic abuse have been reported in Sri Lanka over the weekend.

The Police said a woman had been arrested after surrendering to the Awissawella Police last morning (19), claiming that she had murdered her abusive husband the previous night (18).

The woman, who is a resident of Awissawella, had reported that her 29-year-old husband had assaulted her while being under the influence of alcohol.

The victim had revealed that she had thereafter clubbed him to death while he was asleep.

The Police said the woman will be produced before the Awissawella Magistrate’s Court today.

Meanwhile, another woman is reported to have killed her abusive husband in the Ariyalai area in Jaffna on Sunday (19).

The Police said the woman had attacked her husband with a coconut scraper at around 1.20 am.

Investigations have revealed that the man was an alcoholic and a family dispute had led to the murder.
