Deadline for filing income tax returns extended

The deadline for filing income tax returns has been extended for another week from 30th November, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe announced.

Speaking in Parliament today (01), he said that no penalty will be charged during that period.

Responding to questions raised by the opposition, he revealed that the system has faced issues due to heavy usage and hence a delay has been reported affecting the process.

State Minister Shehan Semasinghe added that this was not an act of sabotage and that measures have been taken to rectify the issues with the system.

As a solution to the issue, the Finance Ministry has decided to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns for another week from 30th November, he said.

The State Minister of Finance added that all income tax returns filed during this extended period will be considered as those filed on or before 30th November.
