“I am not in the Govt” – Basil

Sri Lanka’s former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa visited the ‘Sri Dalada Maligawa’, Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy today officially commencing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party’s campaign work for the Local Government elections.

Speaking to reporters, former MP Basil Rajapaksa said that the SLPP will contest under the party for 252 local government bodies, while the party will contest as an alliance in other areas such as Jaffna and Batticaloa.

When inquired about attempts to delay the elections, Basil Rajapaksa said that it should be enquired from the government, adding, “I am not in the government.”

Stating that there will not be a delay in elections, Rajapaksa said despite such rumours, the SLPP was preparing to contest the election.
