New elevated metro railway line proposed from Port City to Negombo

The government is considering constructing an elevated metro railway line running from Colombo Port City to Negombo.

According to the Highways Ministry, during a discussion on the matter, Minister of Transport and Highways, Bandula Gunawardena had issued necessary advice on the proposed elevated metro railway line.

The discussion in this regard was held between the Minister, the State Minister of Investment Promotion, Dilum Amunugama, representatives from the Board of Investment and officials of the Ministry at the Ministry’s auditorium.

The company proposing the elevated metro train has proposed to also develop the 25 stations on the way, spanning a distance of 41km, while constructing the metro rail track.

The company had also proposed to bear an investment of $ 2.5 billion for this project.

Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena has advised relevant Ministry officials to take necessary measures to prepare a Cabinet paper on the proposal to obtain approval.

The cabinet paper is expected to be presented as a joint paper between the State Ministry of Investment Promotion and the Ministry of Transport and Highways.
