A Gazette notification has been issued by all District Returning Officers stating that Local Government elections cannot be held as scheduled in April.
As per the Gazette notification, the District Returning Officers have claimed that the election cannot be held as scheduled on April 25, 2023.
The District Returning Officers have further stated that a new date for the election will be announced once the Treasury allocates funds or the Supreme Court gives a decision on the pending case.
The Local Government elections were initially slated to be held on 09th March 2023 but were postponed due to funds having not been provided for the election to be conducted.
The election was postponed for 25th April 2023, however, the Treasury is yet to allocate funds for the election, while a case is also underway at the Supreme Court pertaining to the election.
