Bribery Commission withdraws another case

Former Chairman of the National Lotteries Board of Sri Lanka (NLB) Chandrawansa Pathiraja has been released from charges filed against him by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Pathiraja was released by Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala after the case in this regard was taken up for hearing today.

The Bribery Commission had filed four cases against Chandrawansa Pathiraja for allegedly incurring a loss of Rs. 64 million to the state.

He was accused of causing the loss by awarding the promotional activities pertaining to several lotteries distributed by the National Lotteries Board (NLB) to the private sector, during his tenure in office as the Chairman of the Board.

However, when the case was taken up for consideration today, the Bribery Commission had informed the court that the cases had been filed without the approval of the three Commissioners of the Commission.

The Assistant Director-General of the Commission further informed the court that the charges will be withdrawn on the condition of re-filing legal action.
