Sathosa increases sugar quota for per person

State-owned retail network Lanka Sathosa has revised the quantity of sugar permitted to be sold to per person to 5kg.

Earlier, only 3 kilograms of sugar was permitted to be sold to a single customer.

Chairman of Lanka Sathosa (Retired) Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris stated that the public had to stand in long queues as only five people were permitted to enter the store at a time.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Essential Services Major General  Senarath Nivunhella stated there were sufficient stocks of sugar in the country.

He said the necessary stocks of sugar have been distributed across Sri Lanka at present.

Major General  Senarath Nivunhella added that distribution to stores in remote areas may be delayed due to the islandwide curfew that is currently in effect.
